An American Rider’s Passionate: GSX1000S Katana Custom
Sanctuary's GSX1000S KATANA
Today we bring you a full custom machine that was exhibited at the 2022 Tokyo Motorcycle Show.
The base model is a GSX1000S Katana which was owned by an American rider who used to ride it when he was young. Sanctuary staff went to the US, then received the body at RCM USA Inc. in LA, disassembled it locally, and shipped only the necessary parts to Japan for production. This epic build has crossed the Pacific Ocean and taken three years to complete.
Engine
Big bored to 1,135cc, the eternal standard for the Katana. The engine was overhauled and tuned based on the original GSX1000S. Other than a Yoshimura ST-1 camshaft and lightweight cam sprockets, the rest of the work was focused on overhauling the engine.
Intake & Exhaust
The full titanium exhaust made by Nitro Racing is a custom-ordered version of the already discontinued GSX1000S Katana with an additional 4-2-1-2 dual exhaust.
Although the cost was quite high, the owner's requirements were given top priority.
Yoshimura TMR-MJN Φ40mm Carburetor.
Chassis
The chassis is designed with 17-inch wheels both front and rear, and the parts used come from only the world's top manufacturers. Ohlins suspension, O-Z racing wheels and Brembo brakes. There is no room for lack of quality at the moment of choosing the components, as with so many supercars and bikes from high-end manufacturers.
Bodyworks
The hand fabricated fuel tank is built from aluminium; this provides a more slender look and considerable weight saving.
The front fender and the rear hugger are both carbon pieces. The side covers, radiator end caps, and seat are designed, fabricated, and finished in-house, with utmost determination. The belly pan is a modified Nitro Racing air-cooled Z cover.
The unique Katana styling is retained and features carbon fiber winglets, LED square headlights and that unmistakable mini screen.
The gauges are a one-off plate combination of a tachometer and oil temperature gauge made by Stack, which has an established reputation for reliability. The Ohlins steering damper is machined from duralumin and installed with a single fabrication bracket.
