Two-stroke Reborned: Yamaha RZ250 Custom

 6 min read

QUALITY WORKS' RZ250

QUALITY WORKS is a custom shop that has gained popularity for its work on 2-stroke engine bikes. Each customization they offer is completed using OEM parts from other models and a variety of parts distributed around the world. This Yamaha RZ250 custom is one such example.

This bike was originally brought in by a customer to check the condition. It was already customized to some extent, but QUALITY WORKS has overhauled the parts, including the chassis, engine, and electrical. This bike had installed TZR250R inverted forks. It is often the case that the actual installation is difficult, even using selective parts. In the case of these inverted forks, the outer tube that comes to the top is thicker, which limits the steering angle. If the forks are installed without any modification, the rider will find it difficult to steer and will not benefit from the damping force and stiffness. QUALITY WORKS' service is to deal with such problems with knowledge and technology.

Handle

The gauges with Y-shaped indicators between the speedometer on the left and the engine tachometer on the right are retained. The stem has been fitted with TZR250R (3XV) OEM parts to match the front fork. The machined upper bracket is from HOT&COOL, clamping the handlebar by HURRICANE.

Engine

The engine has Φ65 x 54mm bore, and the displacement is 358cc using TKRJ's 1 mm oversized pistons. The crankshaft was overhauled and pin-welded. The cylinder head and transmission are retained, and the ignition system is upgraded with AS Uotani SP2 high-power coil and NGK power cable to enhance its power output.

Intake & Exhaust

The carburetor is PWK Φ28mm by KEIHIN, and the intake manifold is equipped with an air intake chamber.

SPEX Racing Cross-type exhaust chambers are installed. The rearsets are by HOT&COOL, and the frame is powder coated.

Chassis

The front wheel is YAMAHA OEM 3.00-17 for XJR400. The front brake system consists of Brembo master cylinder, frando 4P calipers and SUNSTAR brake discs.

The rear wheel is YAMAHA OEM 3.50-17 for FZR250R. Brembo master and 2P calipers are also installed.

The chassis is built with the objective of retaining and upgrading the cantilever system. NITRON rear shock is one-off, which is installed at the end of the upper stabilizer.
