The Ideal 1078cc + Full R-Shot#M Engine: Kawasaki GPZ900R Custom by TG NAKAGAWA
TG NAKAGAWA's GPZ900R
TG Nakagawa has prepared many menus for the GPZ900R engine. By using parts from each succeeding model in the series, they are able to both soup up and address the weak points of the engine. They can also add original parts for the internal parts, auxiliaries, and ignition system. Of course, they have also continuously created high performance GPZ900R engines through machining techniques, surface treatment, and assembly. They are able to increase displacements from the stock 908cc to 920cc, 972cc, 1050cc and 1078cc with techniques such as big bore, to 1108cc and 1137cc by changing to a ZX-11 crankshaft, and to 1224cc with the use of a ZRX1200 crankshaft. Of all the displacement options, the 1078cc version is currently recommended for its balance and output characteristics.
With any displacement, TG Nakagawa can tailor your engine to various characteristics. Among them, this 1078cc is a prime example, and the power output is very smooth. The GPZ-R crankshaft has been kept, as it has the best rotation and characteristics of Ninja crankshafts. At the same time, TG Nakagawa's original surface treatment, R-Shot#M, is available as an additional menu item for each internal part, and is applied fully on this bike. This has the effect of increasing the surface strength of the target parts while at the same time reducing sliding resistance and maintaining dimensional integrity. Originally developed to prolong the life of the stock parts, which were becoming obsolete, in addition to the above-mentioned purpose, this treatment also has the merit of expanding the range of settings. In other words, it is now possible to achieve high performance without changing the Ninja head. A ZRX engine conversion was once the only choice for larger displacement engines, but now there is a wider range of options. This bike is equipped with such an engine in a body that has undergone a full menu of 17-inch specifications, with looks that are in line with the stock feel. Although it is easy to focus solely on the engine in this custom, the representative of TG Nakagawa himself has been riding a GPZ900R for a long time, so he also put a lot of work into the chassis. Reinforcements were added to accommodate the increased power, the ride height was adjusted to accommodate the 17-inch rear wheel, and the caster was raised to improve responsiveness. This "packed" chassis and powerful engine will for sure make you want to take it out for a spin. We also recommend it as a reference if you are interested in customizing a GPZ900R now.
Handle
The handlebars were changed to Hurricane bars with a height similar to the stock clip-ons, and both left and right master cylinders use GALE SPEED Elaborate VREs.
Electrical
Two Yoshimura Progress meters are added, while the stock 4-way meter type is also used. The stem was converted for the ZRX1100, and the fork offset was changed to 30mm (40mm on the GPZ900R) to optimize the 17-inch size. The smoke windshield is a Zero Gravity Double Bubble.
Bodyworks
The stock color exterior and Ninja head are part of the stock look concept. The seat is a TGN Ninja complete seat with excellent hold.
Engine
The engine is a "TG Nakagawa Complete Stage 4" (φ79mm Cosworth pistons/1078cc) with Yoshimura ST-1M camshafts and TG Nakagawa's R-Shot#M treatment applied to almost all internal parts. The exterior was also remodeled with a DIS ignition system, HIR ignition unit, DOS-R for additional oil injection to the cam section, and an oil bypass on the crank side. The radiator has been enlarged and the oil coolers are stacked on top of each other in the front and rear. The engine sliders are made by AGRAS.
Intake & Exhaust
The carburetor is a TMR Φ38mm; visible in the center of the photo is the TG Nakagawa oil bypass line, and branching off above is the DOS-R (Direct Oil Jet System R) line that injects oil directly from the head cover to the cam/rocker arm contact surface to aid lubrication.
Chassis
The riding step and down tube are made by K-Factory. This bike was brought in to be converted to a Brembo brake master with this step, which is compatible with the stock one. The frame itself was reinforced in 10 places, and the caster was modified to stand 2 degrees from the stock 29 degrees.
The front forks are Ohlins upright (Φ43mm) and the front brakes consist of Brembo Axial 4P calipers + Sunstar premium racing front brake discs.
The rear brakes are a combination of Brembo CNC P2 34 calipers + Sunstar premium racing rear brake discs. The exhaust system with its own spiral collector is a full titanium 4-1 exhaust, a collaboration between Nojima Engineering and TG Nakagawa, which is often used for TG Nakagawa customs.
The swingarm is a 7N01 aluminum reinforced, handmade Wheelie Height Control, and the rear shock is an Ohlins 17-inch compatible (KA203). The wheels are forged Marchesini aluminum, M10S Kompe-Evo 3.50-17/6.00-17 sizes. The drive chain is RK's 520X-XW, with RK's HCS (carbon steel) sprockets.
