Pursuit of Agile Riding: GPZ900R Custom
Bull Docker TAGOS's GPZ900R
The owner had been enjoying light customization of his GPZ900R 1992 until recently, when he visited Bull Docker TAGOS and test rode one of their demo machine, he decided to get a full customization. First of all, the motorcycle was delivered once with the intake and exhaust systems reworked and the suspension being rebuilt, and for the second time, the suspension, which was a fine custom, was also revamped. The stock carburetor was replaced with a Keihin FCR, and the color of the bike was completely redesigned.
The owner's intention as working on the full customization was to "boosting the overall performance of the motorcycle while maintaining a stock-like appearance, so that it can be enjoyed for long touring and sport riding". What should be pointed out here is that the ignition system has been renewed by the restoration menu +α. For this particular motorcycle, the ignition system is optimized with HIR and the new ignition coils of Trading Garage Nakagawa. The ignition coils have been also causing a number of problems at Bull Docker TAGOS in recent years, and replacing them with new ones as soon as possible is an important point to ensure a reliable ignition and a trouble-free machine. The older the original machine is, the more important it is not to overlook these points. Including these points, Bull Docker TAGOS' idea of the GPZ900R is the machine reborn as an all-rounder that can be comfortably handled in long tourings, turned easily on winding roads, and be nimble and fun. As spring season comes, it will become the part of the owner's hands and feet, be ridden around all over the places.
Handle
This is the new prototype of Bull Docker TAGOS original stem kit called "TAGOS Cruise Stem". It was developed by Bull Docker TAGOS to optimize the dimensions of the GPZ900R with 17-inch front and rear, and is a must-have item for users who value the style and operability of the stock clip-on handle that has become common in recent years.
Both the brake and clutch masters are made by Gale Speed. In addition to the light touch feeling, the brake lever ratio can be changed, so it can be easily adapted to the owner's preference.
Bodyworks
The last GPZ900R was released 17 years ago in 2003, which is why the top of the key cylinder is often missing letters due to contact with the key. That's why Bull Docker TAGOS also sells protector seals.
The subframe is made by Craftsman, which is also the owner's preference. Sliders are also installed, but they are also installed with as little interference as possible to avoid modification of the stock cowl.
Engine
There are concerns about the cooling performance of the stock cowl, but preferring not to modify the stock cowl as much as possible. In order to meet such demands, the radiator was changed to one made by Ishihara Radiator. In addition, Bull Docker TAGOS radiator cover protects the surface.
Intake & Exhaust
The carburetor is a Keihin FCR Φ37mm. While a Φ39mm or larger carburetor is chosen more likely for GPZ900R Custom to increase power, a Φ37mm carburetor is sufficient for street use and easy handling in the low to mid RPM range.
The exhaust is K-Factory Full Titanium. It is one of the few exhausts that can be installed without major modification to the under cowl, and is one of the standard choices for users who consider importance on maintaining a full cowl.
Chassis
The inner tubes of the front forks are DLC-machined and set up with Hyper Pro springs. Not only the road-following performance on the street has been improved, but also the manueverability has been optimized.
The rear shock is a Hyper Pro, but it is custom-made with a spring specially designated by Bull Docker TAGOS. The shock is supple in the early stages of movement, but is firm at the back to reduce fatigue even when touring.
With the stock stand, the bike itself will be in a slant position when the rear end is converted to 17-inch. Therefore, Bull Docker TAGOS has released a new stainless steel stand that is 30mm longer than the stock stand to provide an optimal posture for the 17-inch GPZ900R.
The brake rotors are Sunstar Premium Racing, but the floating pins have been changed to Bull Docker TAGOS originals. The red colored lettes on the black contribute to a casual dress-up look. Calipers are made by Brembo.
Both front and rear wheels are Gale Speed Type C. The rear wheels are 6.0J which is compatible with the ZZR1100(D). Also, if taking a close look, you can see that the axle shafts are made by PEO, and they were enlarged in diameter by using Zephyr 1100 axles.
The swingarm is modified from a stock ZX-10 in order to fit the ZZR1100(D) 6.0J wheels while still making it stock-like. Combined with the axle shaft modification, the rear rigidity has been increased for better stability.
